The Scottish Lighting Event

At the first event of its kind in Scotland for a long while, Edinburgh Napier University welcomed 26 exhibitors and over 100 guests to a full day of product displays, networking and a CPD programme.

The event enjoyed two talks on sustainability, the first from Irene Mazzei, PhD, Sustainability Lead at Stoane Lighting, who discussed remanufacture and what it looks like in practice. Emily Bolt, Technical Services Manager at Signify, spoke about solar lighting. Two other talks explored diversity and inclusion; Kimberly Barlett, Associate Principal, Head of Lighting at Introba, introduced the newly found Women Lighting Professionals, a new group from the ILP. Last but not least, Elizabeth Harrison, Lighting Designer at Stainton Lighting Design Services, gave an informative talk about designing for safer parks.

Some of lighting’s top brands exhibited their latest products to specifiers from Scotland and further afield. Attendees met with ASD Lighting, Atrium, BEGA, C U Phosco Lighting, D W Windsor, Electrical Testing Ltd, Future Architectural Lighting, Glasdon UK, Helvar, Holophane, Hydro – Pole Products, iGuzzini, INDO Lighting, James M. Anderson, Lightnet Group, NJS Lighting Solutions, OrangeTek, Portland Lighting, Signify, Stainton Lighting Design Services, Stoane Lighting, Street Lighting Supplies, Studiotech, Tofco, TRT Lighting and Urbis Schreder.

Lisa Sutherland, Stoane Lighting's Marketing Manager and member of the SLL Events Committee, and Lindsey McPhillips, Senior Street Lighting Engineer at the City of Edinburgh Council and chair of the ILP Scotland LDC, organised the event and are delighted that the day was a great success.

Lisa said, “I enjoyed working alongside ILP Scotland to make this event happen. It’s a personal goal of mine to bring events back to Scotland’s lighting industry and it was great to see such a buzz from both exhibitors and specifiers on the day.”

Lindsey added, “I was delighted to see the event go so well, this wouldn’t have happened without the assistance of the SLL and Edinburgh Napier University. Everyone I have spoken to who were at the event have said how much they enjoyed it and hope to see the return of The Scottish Lighting Event in the future.”

Attendees said:

“Great to have a lighting exhibition back in Scotland. Let's hope next year is even bigger and better.”

“The Scottish ILP and SLL have done an amazing job getting all the lighting professionals together for one of the best technical sessions/exhibitions in a long time. Every single detail that went into the event was well planned and thought out.”

“Congratulations to Lisa and Lindsey who pulled off a fantastic event for Scotland’s lighting community.”

“Worthwhile attending for anybody in the lighting industry.”

“Well done to all organisers and congratulations for putting this event in Edinburgh. The innovation and dedication towards net zero from lighting manufactures is hugely underestimated. We all have unique solutions which this event allowed the opportunity to engage in conversation with local lighting designers.”
