May 13th Update - Our Light + Building Sale in now winding down. Thank you so much to everyone who donated, made some lights or nominated. With your kind donations we managed to smash our Just Giving target and hopefully managed to brighten a few days with some creative lighting, or an appreciative gift.

We will leave our Just Giving page up a little bit longer for those who still want to donate but be warned, we have ran out of beer.

The #makesomelights tag has been fun, and it would be great if we could keep this going. Some of the creations have been brilliant and we would love to see more.

Thanks again,

The team @stoanelighting

What a difference 7 weeks makes.

A lifetime ago we were starting to wonder what this virus emerging from Wuhan might mean for us all, something sounded ominous.

Then everything changed.

We all are living a new reality, living and working in ways to best get through it. Not lost on us was the irony in having, after 12 month’s graft, had the business awarded its government recognised Cyber Secure certificate, acknowledging new measures in place to protect us and our customers from nasty viruses, a week before being clobbered by: a nasty virus.

At Stoane Lighting we have managed to relocate most of the workforce remotely and are currently able to safely operate 2 alternating skeleton shifts. A handful of individuals split between 2 shifts working at distance to keep the vital organs ticking over. We are taking it one day at a time, the solidarity and patience we have experienced is heartening and we hope the service we are providing is justifying this.

Light + Building came and went. The Venice Architecture Biennale too. We optimistically harboured plans to do Park Event early in the summer but that is starting to look doubtful.

In the scheme of things this is very small beer. As we considered furloughing staff, we asked if there was anything we could do to help. If there was anything our design, engineering, paint shop or assembly teams could help with. Nothing so far.

Accepting that we have no trade events coming up we now have a surplus of goodies. Can we put them to use?

Specifically, we have a fair-sized supply of the legendary Joker beer from @Williamsbrosbrewingco (now in cans, so shippable!*) and a corresponding glut of lovely Stoane Lighting reusable stainless steel beakers.

And…... a number of the latest (MkIII) @lightstones rings. We are particularly proud of this year’s version, a 3-way collaboration. Back again is the other Ingo - light artist legend: Mr Kalecinski. By day, a senior member of DPA London’s formidable line-up. By night, part of the mysterious trio that are GNI Projects, and co-founder of www.lightstones.uk with Tommaso Gimigliano. We joined forces with Midton. Acrylic casting wizards who ply their alchemy on the west coast of Scotland. www.midton.com (who have currently shifted production to face masks for the NHS).

The manufacturing process (using a significant proportion of recycled acrylic waste and “bin end” LEDs) of this specifically developed, limited run means that these exclusive wearables are genuinely unique. Whether lit via the discreet battery powered embedded LED and worn in the dark or simply as daytime jewellery they are equally striking. RRP £229.99.

They are doing no good sat in a box in Edinburgh. They need homes! Here are the 3 ways we would like to re-house them.

We are squeaking by. Keeping our heads above water and trying to function during difficult times. There are countless nameless heroes out there every day actually saving lives, changing lives. If you know of someone whom you think deserves and would appreciate this small token of our collective thanks then please let us know via social media by using the tag @StoaneLighting and we will select some to demonstrate our gratitude.

Make

#makesomelights. Yes! Its back! You are stuck at home. Show off your creativity. Share a picture of an improvised or improved luminaire. Add #makesomelights and @stoanelighting and we’ll pick some of the most ingenious or funny for a prize. Obviously lighting designers start with an unfair advantage here but we encourage anyone and everyone here.

Judges tip😉: Think about sustainable manufacturing in your designs.

Donate

If you seriously need a ring or one of our lots, but don’t want to risk the dubious subjectivity of the Stoane Lighting judges then you need to show us the ####ing money. See below for where it goes.

Shelter Box

Shelter Box send carefully selected pre-prepared shelter and life essentials to where it is needed most. By sending kit, not cash, they provide practical, tangible support and the impact is immediate. For an industry that exists in the high echelons of the built environment its possible to overlook the fact that many around the world are denied even the most basic shelter. This all the more harrowing at times such as these.

We think they do great work and thank you enormously for helping them.

With huge thanks,

The team at Stoane Lighting
