Introduction
The dark skies movement spearheaded by organisations like DarkSky International and its Responsible Outdoor Lighting At Night (ROLAN) manifesto is something that Stoane Lighting is very interested in and keen to support.
Whilst many of our products are sympathetic to the night sky this is an area that we intend to grow into further. With ever growing knowledge of the world around us, how we can impact it negatively, and how we can intervene positively, it seems incumbent on us to correspondingly use knowledge, creativity and technology to light our outdoor spaces in ways that celebrate and protect it.

Case studies
We've had the privilege of being involved in some fantastic projects in this area.

Plas Y Brenin
It is hard to point to a better project that underlines the importance and success of such considered interventions than Kerem Asfuroglu’s (Dark Source) comprehensive but incredibly sensitive intervention, at Plas y Brenin in Wales. We were grateful to have been asked to provide some of the equipment for this multi award winning scheme.”

Hereford Dark Sky Event
A successful Dark Sky event took place first in February 2024, then again in January 2025, with all lights switched off in the town of Hertford. The lights around the castle were dimmed, allowing visitors to enjoy a guided tour of the night sky led by Bayfordbury Observatory from the University of Hertfordshire.
