LED Binning
LED manufacturing has an element of unpredictability in the manufacturing process.
When manufacturing millions of LED chips, they are not all created equal. They may not all have the same voltage, produce the same amount of light at the same drive current and they don’t all produce exactly the same colour. It’s for these reasons that the LED chip manufacturers are sorted (binned) into groups of like characteristics (or within specified tolerances).
As luminaire manufacturers, it is important to us to try and get light sources from the same flux, voltage and colour bins such that we can in particular do our best to achieve colour point consistency across products and projects if additional products are needed in the future.
We cannot guarantee bin consistency but on top of procurement bin targets, track bin information such that for any additional light sources, we are in the best place possible to select LEDS from the same bins.
