ATEX
ATEX directives are laws that regulate the use of equipment and protective systems in potentially explosive atmospheres. Lighting equipment can be required in such atmospheres, for example distilleries.
The ATEX ratings applied to luminaires cover the extent of their allowed use in terms of level of risk, type of protection and zone of use. It is important to ensure that an ATEX product is suitable for the intended use and application.
Stoane Lighting so far produce one ATEX certified luminaire, a variant of the Toad Type X. The product and its allowable variations are externally assessed and certified to the requirements by external assessment body, ExVeritas.
The ATEX Toad Type X has been used amongst other applications to light areas of distilleries in Scotland. We can develop other ATEX products for projects when required given sufficient time for design, prototyping and testing.
Project example
With Speirs Major, we were honoured to be involved in the development of The Macallan distillery. Our first project with The Macallan, which has led to future collaboration, the design team used the Toad Type X. A high output IP66 rated spot light.
Applying ATEX certification to the existing Toad Type X came without huge challenge. Some components and cabling needed to be redesigned to suit and we're delighted that it is now commonly used by other specifiers in similar applications.
