Packaging

A small but important step

Stoane Lighting has eliminated the use of plastic in packaging. We believe this should be the bare minimum. Cardboard packaging from goods inwards is recycled for packaging our products. Where reuse is not viable, Stoane Lighting have invested in equipment to (on-site) repurpose outer packing as soft inner packing and space filler. All of this is recyclable at the end of useful life.

We were uncomfortable with the evident greenwash practices happening in the sector, so wanted to be certain to only take steps that we knew were meaningful and verifiable. In 2018 we almost entirely eradicated plastic from our packaging practices.

Outer cardboard packaging from goods inwards is flattened and using a specialist type of shredding machine, is repurposed for inner packaging of luminaires and space filling for goods outwards. Our neighbouring businesses on the industrial estate also pool packaging for us for this purpose.

Plastic in packaging has been eliminated, even plastic packing tape which is made of kraft paper and 100% recyclable.

Finally traditional inks have been replaced by inks with a VOC-free vegetable carrier for the packaging branding. The context here is final biodegradability and being certain that there is nothing toxic present which could pollute the soil and water when they reach landfills.
