London South Bank University redeveloped their London Road Building to create a modern and collaborative environment for students and staff. To achieve BREEAM’s ‘Very Good’ sustainability rating, it was important for the products specified to be of high sustainable value. ZTA was a good fit.

Working with BDP's lighting team, the original design brief from 2018 for the timber slatted ceiling was a simple can with high output, good quality beam and provision for accessories. Some years on, ZTA.70.Bay was developed and with its embodied carbon already counted, it was well-matched.

In the same open-plan library space, ZTA.50.Surface was also used with a super tight 3.5º beam to highlight the birch ply fins of the feature wall
