Winning GOLD in the Lighting category at this year's Scottish Design Awards is an installation at the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in Reykjavík.

Beautifully lit by the talented Edinburgh-based team at LightMedium, this permanent exhibition brings Norse saga manuscripts to life through a carefully crafted lighting scheme that balances conservation with powerful storytelling.

The space intentionally uses very low ambient lighting to heighten the drama and protect these Viking-age treasures. Surface mounted and track mounted matt black ZTA.50 spotlights fill the space to deliver precise, focused illumination exactly where it’s needed.

Framing projectors were added to present graphics in vivid detail while avoiding light spill onto nearby AV installations.

For case lighting, tiny Ø9mm Protozoa were mounted to custom made bars to allow for maximum flexibility on site.

Congratulations to LightMedium on their much deserved recognition!
