  • Lighting Design: BDP, Light Collective

Having been developed and prototyped in-house, 3000 solid acrylic spheres were CNC cut, tapped, bored and polished for us in the UK. The aluminium heatsinks were similarly processed. Each sphere is lit by 1 Xicato module and controlled via a bespoke piece of electronics we developed with S2e.nl. Each sphere’s address circuit and suspension height was specified by Light Collective exactly to create the twinkling form required. The real challenge was the bespoke catenary system to hang them; custom st.steel and Kevlar cored wire was encased in nickel plated copper for current carrying and strength requirements. Dedicated anchor brackets and tensioners were developed that enabled them to be added to the existing structure without requiring any invasive intervention i.e. no drilling or welding.
