About Us

Stoane Lighting is an Employee Owned design-led manufacturer of architectural light fittings. Our products are used in a variety of building environments: high profile, large scale new builds, museums, trendy bars, restaurants or historic buildings like cathedrals and castles. Also, residential and retail applications.

All of our fittings are made to order and assembled at our factory in Loanhead, just outside of Edinburgh. On top of our standard range of products we manufacture variations of them as well as completely bespoke one-off pieces. We have our own capable workshop as well as a solid base of local subcontractors who make components to our designs.

Stoane Lighting is proud to be an accredited B Corp. Certified B Corps are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. Together with the global B Corp community, we are helping to build an inclusive and sustainable economy.

Employee Owned

Employee engagement is very much encouraged and under the employee ownership model there are not only plenty of opportunities to contribute to the ongoing success of the company, but the possibility of dividend payments to employees in profitable years.

Values

We are a fun, close knit team made up primarily of product designers, engineers and technical staff alongside talented members in non-light making roles. We are a diverse group who operate to our own high standards and values: Making things way better, by making things a better way.

Production Engineer

Job Description

Assembling light fittings; following instruction manuals, using fixings, hand tools and learning the different procedures to manufacture our wide range of standard and custom-built luminaires. Every project at Stoane Lighting is different and as a lot of our work is bespoke, there is plenty of variety. When we produce larger batches of standard fittings you will have the chance to learn each type inside out, but rarely on a scale that demands weeks of the same work.

Due to the diversity and often bespoke nature of our products, assembly at Stoane Lighting bears little resemblance to assembly lines in a large automotive or electronics company. Thanks to that varied environment and opportunities to work in our workshop, each position in the company is unique and allows for progression in different directions throughout the organisation. The products and company are constantly evolving and we very much believe in encouraging staff to think for themselves and to contribute by means of ideas as well as hard work.

Person Specification

Essential

  • A basic knowledge of electricity (i.e. wiring a 13amp plug)
  • Great attention to detail
  • Practical hands-on skills (i.e. do you make or fix things as a hobby?)
  • An enthusiasm for design and engineering
  • A desire to learn new skills
  • Organised and methodical
  • Flexible “can do” attitude
  • Reliable and trustworthy

Desirable

  • 2D & 3D AutoCAD or Inventor
  • Ability to use a computer e.g. Outlook, ERP system
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Strong team player and able to work on own initiative
  • Good at multi-tasking
  • Machine skills e.g. manual mills, lathes (any experience)

Pay/Salary

Staring salary £19,305 p/a.

This is a permanent full time position with a 6 month probationary period. 37.5hrs per week (9am - 5pm). We are looking for people with the same passion for making and to have fun while doing it. We only ever manufacture to order and that bring deadlines. Work often fluctuates and so overtime is often required during busy periods (paid at hourly rate).

Workshop Engineer

Job Description

We are currently looking for someone to join our workshop team. Our ideal candidate would be a fast learner, a creative problem solver and would be able to adapt quickly to new ways of working with a varied workload.

Excellent hands on workshop skills are essential, as is experience of working with manual lathes and mills. CNC / Fanuc experience would also be an advantage although a keenness to learn is more important. We have vast portfolio of standard component drawings with varied complexity with more produced and updated every day. Technical drawing knowledge is essential to follow drawings and provide feedback.
